French hornist Olivia Esther is quickly establishing herself as soloist, chamber musician, educator and an advocate for the arts in Canada. Her unique, beautiful sound and deeply compelling interpretations make her a much sought after performer.
A committed and passionate educator, Ms. Esther founded Viva Arts, a not for profit organization which supports and promotes music education in the public school system.
Ms. Esther obtained a Bachelor of Music in horn performance from Acadia University. She pursued additional studies in orchestral performance at Mcgill University and was a resident at the Banff Centre for the performing Arts. In 2010, Olivia was invited to be the Musician in Residence at the University of New Brunswick where she lectured and performed on the horn.
She is currently enrolled in a Masters of Education from Acadia in Curriculum Studies with a Focus in Music Education where she is pursuing research in the field of Artistic Cross-training© of which is is the originator and creator. Past teaching positions have included horn instructor for Upper Canada College, Havergal College and an itinerant music teacher for the Rosedale Day School in Toronto.
Olivia Esther can be seen performing with such orchestras as the Canadian Opera Company, the National Ballet Orchestra and Esprit Orchestra. She is Principal horn with the Canadian Sinfonietta and is a full time member of the Toronto Brass Quintet.
